IESI Bethlehem Landfill in Lower Saucon Township announced Thursday that Al Schleyer has been named new district manager of the facility, which is located at 2335 Applebutter Road.
Schleyer, who has been compliance manager at the landfill since 2006, brings nearly 30 years of environmental sector experience to the job, according to a news release.

In his new role Schleyer will oversee the day-to-day operations of the landfill, which is pursuing an expansion to the southeast and has also proposed an expansion to the west that can only happen if a zoning change is approved by township council.
Schleyer replaces Sam Donato, who resigned from his position in March.
“I am excited to take on the role of District Manager and continue my work at Bethlehem Landfill in this expanded capacity,” Schleyer said. “My top priority is to ensure we continue to operate an environmentally responsible and safe operation for the Lower Saucon community and our employees.”
“Bethlehem Landfill will continue to back local business by purchasing locally, and will support the needs of local youth sports, charitable organizations and emergency services,” he added.
Schleyer received a Bachelor of Science degree in Environmental Science & Resource Management from Lehigh University and has maintained certification for more than 20 years with the Institute of Professional Environmental Practice, an organization with a mission to improve the practice and educational standards of environmental professionals around the globe through administration of multi-disciplinary certification programs, according to the news release.
