The newly-reorganized Friends of the Hellertown Area Library (FOTHAL) will launch a membership drive at Hellertown-Lower Saucon Community Day on Saturday, Aug. 22, according to information posted Wednesday on the group’s Facebook page.
The committee members for FOTHAL are: Dave Lloyd, president; Jessica King, vice president; Linn Lloyd, secretary; and Andrea Barner, treasurer.
“Our membership drive officially begins with two tiers of membership,” Lloyd said. “Become a Friend for a $15 annual membership or a Sponsor for a $35 annual membership.”
Both memberships come with the benefit of “at-cost books that can be purchased directly from the library for more than 40 percent off retail price.”
“That benefit starts the moment you become a member,” Lloyd said, and volunteers at FOTHAL’s Community Day booth will process orders with the New York Times Top 100 book list.
“You can order any available book, the Top 100 is just an example,” he added.
Sponsors will also receive a complimentary FOTHAL T-shirt printed by Saucon Valley Sporting Goods of Hellertown.
Adult sizes from small through XXL will be available at the community day tent, where orders for additional shirts/sizes will be taken.
Totes will be available as an alternative to the tees “for those who need a way to carry all their books around in style.”
Hellertown-Lower Saucon Community Day will be held from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. in the borough’s Dimmick Park, and will feature dozens of vendors, businesses and organizations, along with food, entertainment and more.
“The Friends of the Hellertown Area Library is devoted to supporting the Hellertown library through fundraising and service,” according to the mission statement posted on their Facebook page.
The Friends are also organizing a book drive in order to give away books at Community Day.
“We need your books so we can redistribute them to others in the community free of charge,” Lloyd said. “Collect those old favorites along with the paper and hardbacks taking up space on your bookshelf. Bring them to the circulation desk at the Hellertown library and let them know you’re donating for the book giveaway on the 22nd.”
