1-to-1 iPad Initiative Kicks Off at St. Mike’s

St. Michael the Archangel School students in kindergarten through eighth grade will reap the educational benefits of iPads this year, thanks to a $200,000 1-to-1 initiative funded through private donations.

The Catholic school’s 335 students will receive their devices in September, after a technology committee spent about a year-and-a-half working on the roll-out.

According to an article published the A.D. Times in June, the school has also undergone technology infrastructure upgrades and hired a technology coordinator to help support the initiative.

Research that led to the iPad purchase involved meeting with Apple representatives, who explained their educational benefits, the article indicated.

St. Michael the Archangel has two campuses: an elementary school near Coopersburg and a middle school in Upper Saucon Township.

The school joins the nearby Saucon Valley School District–which also has a 1-to-1 iPad initiative for students in its middle and high schools–in making the switch from traditional paper and pencil to high-tech tablets.

Currently there are limited spaces available in first through eighth grades at St. Mike’s, with transfer grants available, a staff member said.

For more information about enrollment, contact Marianne Gano in the school’s Advancement Office at 610-867-8422.
