Proposed PPL Transmission Line Rebuild Will Be Subject of Meeting

Est. Read Time: 2 mins

PPL Electric Utilities has announced plans to rebuild an existing transmission power line that is partially located in Lower Saucon Township to help ensure greater reliability for local customers.

The 14.6-mile Hosensack-Seidersville transmission line extends from the company’s Seidersville substation in western Lower Saucon to its Hosensack substation in Lower Milford Township, crossing through parts of Upper Saucon Township and Salisbury Township along the way.

“The line will be rebuilt in the current right of way for most of the project, but some new right of way may be required in a few locations,” PPL said. “Completion of this project will allow for the continued operation of the line with increased reliability and will decrease costs associated with repairs this aging line has experienced. This work also will increase reliability through improved lightning protection, replacement of wood poles, and other measures.”

The company said some of the poles that support the line date from the early 1950s.

PPL will hold an open house to discuss plans for the rebuilding of the line–which is expected to begin in June 2017 and be completed in December 2018 pending Public Utility Commission approval, according to a fact sheet provided by the company.

The open house will be held at the Upper Saucon Social Quarters, 4900 Lanark Road, Center Valley, on Wednesday, Oct. 28 from 6 to 8 p.m., and will not have a set agenda or include a formal presentation.

In a story about the upcoming meeting, the Morning Call reported that a company spokesman said the cost of the new transmission line–if approved–will be passed along to PPL ratepayers.
