A Hamburg, Berks County man is wanted for allegedly burglarizing a well-known Lower Saucon Township restaurant earlier this month, township police said Wednesday.
According to police, Ted Books, 42, of the 100 block of White Pine Avenue, was observed on restaurant surveillance footage entering the Saucon Valley Grille (Leithsville Inn), 2006 Leithsville Road, after it had closed on the evening of Dec. 14. Books had been a customer at the restaurant’s bar earlier in the evening and returned during the early morning hours of Dec. 15, police said.
After allegedly stealing $340 in cash from the register and a bank bag–as well as a MegaTouch electronic game valued at approximately $2,000–police said Books was captured on surveillance leaving the parking lot in a Dodge Stratus.
The burglary was discovered by a restaurant employee on the morning of Dec. 15, police said.
Books is currently on state parole for a previous burglary conviction and in addition to Lower Saucon Township Police, the state parole board has issued a warrant for his arrest on charges of burglary, theft and receiving stolen property, police said.
Anyone who has knowledge of his whereabouts is asked to contact township police at 610-317-6110.
The Leithsville Inn–a local landmark for more than a century–was listed for sale earlier this year. The property is still listed for sale, according to search results.
