What a week it was for the Saucon Valley High School basketball team! Tuesday night the Panthers defeated previously undefeated Salisbury (at Salisbury!) 61-50. Josh Snead’s 19 points led the Panther effort. Salisbury fell to a 13-1 Colonial League record.

Thursday night Saucon Valley was home on “Senior Night” and refused to lose against the Spartans of Southern Lehigh. The Panthers won 46-45 in a televised game for all the Lehigh Valley to see. I am sure the viewers were impressed as Josh Snead’s late game, coast to coast heroics sealed the victory for the Panthers. The Spartans had a 12-2 Colonial League record. Mike Kane led all Saucon scorers with 17 points while Kyle Cyphers added 11.

Completing the weekly trifecta, the Panthers held on to send the Notre Dame Crusaders home with a 70-58 loss. Notre Dame dropped to an 11-4 record. This time it was Patrick “Lights-Out” Gilmore who led Saucon Valley with 22 points. He quickly led the Panthers from the start netting three long-range bombs along the way to building a 19-9 first quarter lead. The energetic Panthers never looked back. Mike Kane added 13 points for the Panthers and is now only 18 away from the 1,000 point career milestone.

With the three big wins against the Colonial League powerhouses, the Panthers improved to a 12-4 Colonial League record and clinched a spot in the Colonial League tournament which is scheduled to start on Saturday, Feb. 6.

But first Saucon will face Moravian Academy (6-9) on Monday night and then travel to Palisades (6-10) for the regular season finale on Wednesday.

C’mon out and watch these pouncing Panthers hustle their way into the post season. Monday should be especially festive as Saucon senior Mike Kane has a real good chance to score his 1,000th point.

Good luck Panthers! The Source is with you.
