The investigation into a fire with one confirmed fatality in Lower Saucon Township’s upscale Society Hill development is ongoing, police said in a news release Friday afternoon.
The news release provided few additional details about the investigation, other than to say that Se-Wy-Co Volunteer Fire Department, the Pennsylvania State Police Fire Marshal and the Allentown Fire Department’s K-9 Unit are all involved in it.
On Friday afternoon a Lower Saucon Township Police Department K-9 Unit vehicle was visible parked outside 1859 Mansfield Street, where the fire took place.
The door to the darkened unit was open with crime scene tape spread across it, and two women who appeared to be residents of the complex were peering inside.
An unidentified man in plain clothes told the author of this story to “Have a nice day, sir,” when he walked past the building and stopped briefly on the sidewalk in front of it.
In the latest news release, police reiterated that they found the victim of the fire when they went to the residence to perform a welfare check. They then contacted Northampton County Coroner Zach Lysek, who responded to the scene of the blaze.
The Morning Call reported that a “burned chair” was found inside the home.
The newspaper also identified the owner of the home in a subsequent story that cites county property records.
Police said more information will be released upon the conclusion of their investigation.
