A Lower Saucon Township man is charged with assaulting his girlfriend, who police say was so terrified by the attack that she locked herself in a bedroom to call 911 on her 10-year-old son’s cell phone, after the man allegedly took her phone away to prevent her from calling for help.

In a news release issued Thursday, police said Michael A. Pacitti, 36, of the 1900 block of Pine Court in Society Hill, has been charged with simple assault and harassment and committed to Northampton County Prison in lieu of $5,000 bail.

Police said officers were called to Pacitti’s home shortly before midnight Wednesday after 911 received a call from his “hysterical” girlfriend “stating that her boyfriend had just assaulted her and had taken her cell phone to keep her from calling police.”

When officers arrived at the home, police said they found the woman “to have bruising in her right rib area.”

They said she was also bleeding from a cut on her finger, “which she stated she had sustained when Pacitti kicked her in the chest and then threw her to the ground.”

Pacitti was arrested and was taken to the prison to await his preliminary arraignment, which was held Thursday morning and resulted in the filing of the two charges, police said in the news release.

A preliminary hearing before District Judge David Tidd is scheduled for June 23, according to court records.
