Thirty-nine customers in Hellertown’s Mountainview section are without power, after a reported tree-cutting accident involving power lines and a transformer occurred in the 900 block of Birch Road Friday afternoon.

According to a witness, a man cutting a tree fell off a ladder and broke his hip.

The tree fell onto wires, which caught fire and caused a transformer to explode, resulting in the outage, the witness said, citing an emergency dispatch that went out.

Police, fire and emergency medical personnel reportedly responded to the scene.

PPL confirmed on its website’sĀ outage center map that there is an outage that crews are working to repair.

The estimated restoration time for power in that area is 9 p.m. Friday.

The condition of the man injured in the accident was not immediately available.
