Second Week of Saucon Valley Youth Basketball Action-Packed

The second week of Saucon Valley Youth Basketball League was another exciting one.

The second week of Saucon Valley Youth Basketball League was another exciting one.

Starting with the 3/4 Girls Rec level, the Storm had a dominant performance by Elizabeth Korpics (fourth grade) to beat the Southern Lehigh Terriers. Korpics contributed 19 points to the win.

The 5/6 Travel Boys team, Thundering Herd, had a heartbreaker in their first game, Saturday, losing 29-27 to the Liberty Canes. However, they came storming back on Sunday to beat Parkland Youth Center (PYC) 50-18.

The 3/4 Travel Boys team, the Hoosiers, had a similar experience over the weekend. On Saturday, they lost to Northwestern 30-8. However, they bounced back on Sunday to beat Salisbury, 30-11. Caleb Grim (fourth grade) led the Hoosiers with 16 points and 11 rebounds. Fourth-grader Joey Griffith also made big contributions with five rebounds, two steals and three assists.

Grim also led his 3/4 Boys rec team, the Buckeyes, to victory, scoring eight points with 10 rebounds in the 21-16 win over the Bethlehem Canes 1 team. Matthew Gulati also had a nice game with six points, four rebounds, one assist and two steals.

On the 5/6 Boys rec side, two Saucon Valley teams, the Trojans and Titans, faced off in a close game. Ultimately, Hunter Crookham (sixth grade) led the way for the Trojans with his fourth 3-pointer of the season and a total of five points in the 12-11 nailbiter. Jeffrey Holzbaur (fifth grade) scored four points for the Titans.

Action picks up again this weekend with the 1/2 Minors playing Saturday morning in the Saucon Valley Elementary School Gym. The 3/4 Boys rec teams start play at 11 a.m. in the Saucon Valley Middle School Gym. The 3/4 Girls rec start Saturday at 11:30 a.m. at Southern Lehigh Middle School. The 5/6 Boys rec teams have the weekend off from regular season play, but all four teams are playing in the West End Youth Center Jingle Bell Tournament over the weekend in Allentown. The 5/6 Girls Jaguars team plays a game Sunday at Salisbury at 1 p.m.

The travel teams will see a lot of action this weekend. The Hoosiers will play Saturday in Emmaus at 10 a.m. and Sunday against Schnecksville at home at 12:30 p.m. in the Elementary School. The 5/6 Boys Huskies are also home on Sunday against Lower Macungie at 1:30 p.m. The Thundering Herd are home Sunday at 3:45 p.m. in the Middle School Gym. The 5/6 Girls Bobcats are home against the Canes on Saturday at 10 a.m. in the Saucon Valley Elementary School gym, followed at 11 a.m. by the Tigers, who are playing Southern Lehigh. The Middle School Boys Panthers team plays at home Sunday at 1:30 p.m.
