All quarters had good plays, but the third quarter was key in the Panther boys basketball team’s exciting win against Moravian Academy Monday night.
Saucon’s Josh Snead was first on the board with three points. Saucon was able to rack up seven points before Moravian got on the scoreboard.
Cam Allen, Will Smith and Jake Nichols also contributed in the first quarter. By the end of the quarter, the Panthers had a narrow lead of 16-14.
Smith, Allen and Snead collectively added 11 points in the second quarter, but Moravian pulled ahead with a score at end of the second quarter of 33-32.
The magic started to happen in the third quarter. Jake Nichols’ fast break adding 2 points, and Allen’s reverse layup adding another 2 points were some plays that helped put and keep the Panthers ahead. Six foot six sophomore Aiden Zawodny was also a dominant player with several key turnovers. Moravian was only able to add 3 points with one shot in this quarter. The Panthers added 12 points and brought the score to 44-35.
The fourth quarter saw Moravian with one foul after another. But their game plan to force the Panthers’ hand at foul shots didn’t work. Snead and Allen made their foul shots as well as other points. These, combined with points from Smith and Zawodny, brought the final score to 62-55, Saucon.
When asked how the first win felt, Zawodny replied, “It feels really good. It’s a good start with varsity and I hope we can continue with the rest of the games.”
Saucon next plays Palisades at home on Wednesday.
