The Saucon Valley Panther wrestling team took another step toward a fifth straight Colonial League title Thursday night with a 53-18 beating of the Northern Lehigh Bulldogs. Winning 10 of the 14 bouts, the 2016-17 Panthers improved to a perfect 10-0 overall record. Saucon is 5-0 in the Colonial League.
The Panthers earned pins from Josh Jones (120), Carlos Ortiz (145), Jason Jones (152), Stephen Good (195) and Devin Fontanez (220). The pins by Jones (152), Good (195) and Fontanez all came in under one minute. Jones’ pin came in only 16 seconds.
Saucon Valley also received forfeit points from the Bulldogs to seniors Nate Kehs (170) and Abe Lugo (182).
Panther junior Angelo Mahaffey (138) didn’t give up a single point along the way to locking up a tech-fall against the Bulldog’s Tyler Hargreaves. Mahaffey used two takedowns, a reversal and nine near-fall points on the way to his 15-0 “mercy-rule” victory.
Panthers Paul Miller (126) and Dane Csencsits (160) fought their way to decisions against the Bulldogs. After a scoreless first period, Miller used four takedowns and a reversal to hold on for a 10-7 victory over PIAA Regional qualifier Seth Fronheiser. Csencsits, a freshman, scored an escape and a takedown in the third period to secure a 5-3 comeback victory against Northern Lehigh’s Brandon Belfonti.

The Panther Junior High wrestling team was victorious against the Bulldogs 52-12.
Up Next: The Panthers will be participating at the Juniata Duals over the weekend before heading to Bangor Wednesday night for a showdown with the Slaters who are undefeated in the Colonial league. It will surely be a great night for wrestling fans!
