A Lower Saucon Township man was arrested three times for DUI in nine days late last month, township police said Thursday in a news release.

According to police, Kevin Sobol, 59, of the 3600 block of Drifting Drive, was first arrested Jan. 21 shortly before 1 a.m. after he was allegedly found asleep at the wheel of his vehicle in the roadway in the 3600 block of Lower Saucon Road.

Police said the vehicle was “in gear” and Sobol’s foot was on the brake at the time, and an “open can of beer was in the center console.”

In the second alleged incident–less than 48 hours later–police say Sobol was again found asleep at the wheel of his car near Lower Saucon and Wassergass roads.

Shortly before 11:30 p.m. Jan. 22, police say he again failed field sobriety tests and was taken to the Northampton County DUI Center.

On Jan. 30 at 6:25 a.m., police say Sobol was found asleep at the wheel of his car yet a third time.

In that instance police say officers responded to Apple Street and Mockingbird Hill Road for a report of an unconscious male driver in a vehicle stopped at a stop sign.

“Officers arrived and found (Sobol) again, asleep at the wheel with his vehicle in gear and foot on the brake,” police said. “Mr. Sobol smelled of alcohol and again had a beer in the center console.”

An eyewitness reported that Sobol had a yellow labrador retriever in the car with him at that time.

After failing field sobriety tests police said Sobol was taken to the DUI Center, where he reportedly refused chemical testing; an action that results in an automatic one year driver’s license suspension and a DUI charge at the highest rate of blood alcohol concentration in the commonwealth of Pennsylvania.

Police said Sobol was taken into custody on warrants for the numerous DUI charges on Thursday, and committed to Northampton County Prison in lieu of $20,000 bail following his arraignment.
