Don’t let Wednesday’s mild weather fool you.

True to its reputation, March is proving to be a rollercoaster, temperature-wise, and weather forecasters are warning that by Thursday night temperatures could support the accumulation of up to several inches of snow.

In a hazardous weather outlook issued Wednesday, the National Weather Service said “accumulating snow is possible Thursday night through Friday morning, with the heaviest snow falling during the Friday morning commute.”

Accuweather predicted that the precipitation will begin as rain and then change to snow, accumulating 1-3 inches before ending Friday morning.

“Roads could be slippery,” they warned.

The winter weather event is expected to be followed by a significant drop in temperatures, with Saturday’s high temperature predicted to be just 29 degrees, which is roughly equivalent to the normal low temperature at this time of year.

A low of 17 degrees Saturday night is forecast by the National Weather Service.

Eastern PA Weather Authority said it will issue a “first call” forecast for the light snow event on its Facebook page at 5 p.m. Wednesday.

PA Weather Action issued a first call forecast for the state Tuesday, in which the Saucon Valley is in the middle of a swath where 2 to 4 inches of snow is predicted.

However, on their Facebook page Wednesday, PAWA said they will soon be issuing a second fall forecast which may include a northerly shift of precipitation.

So far it’s been a relatively mild winter with little snow in the Lehigh Valley.

The only significant snow to date was 7.1 inches which fell on the area Feb. 9–when Saucon Valley schools were closed–and only about 10 inches total has been recorded at Lehigh Valley International Airport throughout the entire winter.

The normal average seasonal snowfall for the Lehigh Valley is about 34 inches.
