The Hellertown Community Yard Sale presented by the Hellertown-Lower Saucon Chamber of Commerce is less than 2 months away, and those planning to participate should be aware of several changes taking effect this year.

For starters, you can now register online on the Hellertown Borough website until May 24. Online registration is encouraged.

New for this year are a few other things.

  • The yard sale maps that have been put together in years past will not be made this year due to the increasing number of sales making them unwieldy to view (last year there were at least 160 yard sales), and the growing number of late registrations. Everyone holding a yard sale June 3 is advised to promote it by posting a listing on Craigslist, YardSaleFinder and other websites/apps where people look for yard sale information.
  • Yard signs advertising the sale are available courtesy of co-sponsor Trish Husted, Coldwell Banker Hearthside, Realtors, 186 Main St., Hellertown. This year anyone who borrows a sign to advertise their sale will be required to place a nominal $5 deposit on it and return their sign by June 17, 2017 (2 weeks after the yard sale). This change is because many signs haven’t been returned in the past, and there is an expense in having new signs made each year.
  • SIDEWALK SALES: Businesses on Main Street in Hellertown are being encouraged to have sidewalk sales outside their businesses and advertise/promote them in advance. There will also be an e-blast listing these sales sent by the borough prior to Saturday, June 3. (Note: There is a separate permit form for business owners who will be hosting sidewalk sales.)

Lower Saucon Township residents who want to have yard sales this summer should consider planning them for the same day, in order to take advantage of heavy yard sale traffic in the area. Saucon Source will do our best to share information about neighborhood sales both in and outside the borough given enough advance notice.

Printed yard sale permit forms are available in the lobby of Hellertown Borough Hall, 685 Main St., Hellertown, during regular business hours: 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. The $5 permit fee is being waived for June 3 yard sales only if registrations are received prior to the May 24 deadline.
