The Pennridge Rams from the Suburban One League that represents Bucks and Montgomery counties traveled to Hellertown on Thursday to take on the surging Saucon Valley Lady Panther lacrosse team. Pennridge left Hellertown a couple hours later with a 15-5 mercy-rule victory over the Panthers.
The Rams were able to jump out to a 4-0 lead in the first nine minutes of action. Both defenses then went into lockdown mode. Neither team was able to find net for the next ten minutes.
Saucon Valley called timeout at 6:03 to try and regroup and get the offensive wheels turning. The Panthers were finally able to get on the scoreboard courtesy of a Helen Krescholek goal off a Cam Zavacky assist. Saucon trailed 4-1 with 5:18 remaining in the first half.
Pennridge ramped up the pressure and broke through the Panther defense to extend their lead to 5-1. Panther junior Maddie Zyck, however, took exception. Zyck crashed the net and was able to convert a rebound off the Ram goalkeeper into points for the Panthers. With 1:52 remaining Saucon Valley was lingering with a 5-2 deficit.
Pennridge burned their own timeout at 1:35 and the Rams were able to cash in and close out the first-half scoring with a 6-2 lead.
The Rams continued to have the advantage to start the second half as they sandwiched two goals around Helen Krescholek’s lone goal for the Panthers. The junior powered her way toward the crease and beat the Ram keeper. With 17:51 left to play, Saucon trailed 8-3.
The Panthers started to get their mojo going when Camryn Zavacky and Brooke Riefenstahl booked back to back goals to cut the Ram advantage to 8-5. However, any hopes for a comeback upset surprise of the Rams were dashed as Pennridge scored seven unanswered goals to close out the game with a 15-5 victory.
