Man on Stolen Motor Scooter Arrested for DUI, Police Say

A Hellertown man has been charged with DUI and other offenses after borough police say he was stopped on a motor scooter that turned out to be stolen.

A Hellertown man has been charged with DUI and other offenses after borough police say he was stopped for an alleged traffic violation May 27 on a motor scooter that turned out to be stolen.

In a news release issued Tuesday, police said Robert Gregory Hero Jr., 45, of the 500 block of Main Street, was stopped at Easton Road and Center Street shortly after 6 a.m. and taken into custody on suspicion of DUI.

According to county court records, Hero is charged with:

  • Theft by Unlawful Taking (Felony 3)
  • Receiving Stolen Property (Felony 3)
  • DUI (Misdemeanor)
  • Unauthorized Use of a Motor Vehicle (Misdemeanor 2)
  • Driving on a Suspended License (Summary)
  • Driving an Unregistered Vehicle (Summary)
  • Driving Without Insurance (Summary)

Hero was sent to Northampton County Prison in lieu of $15,000 bail following an arraignment before District Judge Richard H. Yetter III May 27, and he faces a preliminary hearing before District Judge Elizabeth Romig-Gainer June 16 at 9 a.m. in District Court 03-2-04 in Lower Saucon Township, according to court records.
