As summer officially starts Saucon Valley, motorists can expect to encounter even more road work in the area, beginning the week of June 19.

In addition to the existing detour around the Bingen Road Bridge closure in western Lower Saucon Township, work involving the installation of fiber optic cable for Lehigh University will start on nearby Mountain Drive between Seidersville Road and Hayes Street in Bethlehem, affecting a route some Rt. 378-bound motorists have been using as a detour around PennDOT’s Bingen Road detour.

PennDOT has also announced the following projects for the week of June 19:

  • Paving will take place along Leithsville Road (Rt. 412) between Polk Valley Road and Flint Hill Road in Lower Saucon Township on Monday, June 19 between 9 a.m. and 2 p.m., weather permitting. There will be lane restrictions. Motorists should expect delays and use caution when driving through the work zone.
  • Paving will take place along Applebutter Road between Shimersville Road and Lower Saucon Road in Lower Saucon Township on Wednesday, June 21 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. The work by PennDOT maintenance forces will require lane restrictions with flagging, and motorists should expect delays. The work will continue the following week on Wednesday, June 28 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., weather permitting.
  • Paving will take place along Flint Hill Road between Leithsville Road (Rt. 412) and the Bucks County line in Lower Saucon Township on Tuesday, June 20 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. The work by PennDOT maintenance forces will require lane restrictions with flagging, and motorists should expect delays. The work will continue the following week on Tuesday, June 27 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., weather permitting.
  • From 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday and Tuesday, June 19 and 20, PennDOT maintenance forces will be widening shoulders along I-78 East between Exit 60 (Rt. 309) and Exit 67 (Rt. 412) in Lower Saucon Township and the City of Bethlehem. There will be lane restrictions and motorists should expect significant delays. From 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday, June 21 and 22, PennDOT maintenance forces the same work will be performed on the westbound side of the highway, with lane restrictions. Significant delays will be possible.

Saucon Source readers have also reported that road work of an unknown type will be taking place along a section of Saucon Valley Road west of Rt. 378 near Friedens Evangelical Lutheran Church (Old Bethlehem Pike) in Upper Saucon Township, and along a section of Center Valley Parkway in Upper Saucon Township.
