Three months into my term and I reflect on how time passes by so fast. I have found this position much more challenging than I ever anticipated.  With a new council, and myself, many explanations and protocols have to be adhered to and accepted. I enjoy the challenge this new role has posed. I believe it is has made me a better listener. I continue to work on my filters so that I am not misunderstood, especially when being quoted in the media.

There is so much good happening in this community. The traffic, which is a problem everywhere, is being addressed and will have positive outcomes. The Hellertown-Lower Saucon Chamber of Commerce plays an active role in communicating many activities that are funded through them and other business alike.

Hellertown mayor David Heintzelman addresses a crowd outside All Bright Yoga in March. Heintzelman delivered welcoming remarks at the ribbon-cutting ceremony for the new business at 766 Main Street.

We have had several ribbon-cuttings that demonstrate the growth of Hellertown, a place where locals support. The Hellertown Police Department has your best interests in sight and continue to keep us safe and protected. This borough is a place where our community embraces families and has wonderful resources for everyone to enjoy. On April 23, we will have our second Coffee with Cops at the Mountainview Moravian Church, 331 Constitution Ave., Hellertown, from 8:30 to 10 a.m. See you there!

Over the course of the last few months, I have learned to understand that we have a diverse community with many views. Some choose to voice their comments, questions and concerns through social media and not necessarily in a council meeting. I encourage everyone to attend council meetings to understand the initiatives and provide input. Your voice is certainly heard at these meetings and I feel is the first step in proper communication dialogue.

Hellertown lives by the motto: Cherishing our Past . . . Embracing the Future. The future is all of us working together, to make our lives and our children’s lives a place to remember; the many gifts our forefathers have provided, making a community a safe place for families to grow.

You can make the difference in Hellertown. Let us continue to promote the businesses and service organizations that give back to the many requests for their successful fundraisers. Their vested interests continue to help our community grow. Remain positive as we live the lives we choose to live in this great community.
