The Northampton County Coroner was called to the scene of a river rescue underneath the Rt. 33 bridge across the Lehigh River Friday morning, and sources say it was for the recovery of the body of a person who reportedly earlier jumped from the span.

LehighValleyLive.com reported that Pennsylvania State Police at Belfast are investigating the incident, which was reported at 6:54 a.m. as a water/dive rescue at mile marker 1 on Rt. 33 south in Lower Saucon Township.

The news website reported that just before 8 a.m. something was found on an island between two boat launches on the river, and that 20 minutes later a rescue basket was lowered to that area before the body of a white man was put inside it without any life-saving measures taking place.

The Rt. 33 bridge spans the river between Lower Saucon Township and Bethlehem Township, and connects Rt. 33 with I-78 just south of the river.
