Along with the birds and the bees and the buds on the trees comes hydrant flushing each spring.

The Hellertown Borough Authority’s annual spring hydrant flushing throughout the borough will begin May 7.

Flushing will take place from Monday, May 7 through Friday, May 11 and Monday, May 14 through Friday, May 18 from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.

The flushing will begin in the vicinity of the Saucon Valley School District campus and the next day generally move through the Mountainview section of town.

“Customers should expect to experience some discoloration or cloudiness in their water as the system is flushed but once the flushing is completed each day the water will quickly clear,” Authority administrator Glenn Higbie said. “Customers should refrain from washing clothes or other laundry items during the work and minimize water usage to prevent sediment from being drawn into their facilities.”

Customers whose phone numbers are on file with the Borough Authority will be contacted in advance of their area’s flushing via an automated phone notification system at the beginning of each week.

The Authority will also use its Facebook page to provide updates, so residents are encouraged to like and follow it to keep abreast of where flushing will be taking place.

Questions may be asked by calling the Hellertown Borough Authority at 610-838-8051 or by visiting the HBA at 501 Durham Street, Hellertown, during regular business hours.
