FC Steel Girls’

’04 Girls

  • fell 5-0 to Haverford Elite
  • Coach:  Ray Canevari

Despite falling 5-0 to Haverford Elite in their first game ever, the FC Steel 04 girls should be optimistic as they look to the future.  Sarah Yeakel, Ella Kocher, Kaitlyn Dill, and Kaitlyn Browning had solid games. Additionally, Emilia Blechschmidt and Mackenzie Gonzales provided a spark off the bench. The 04’s are on the road next Saturday and Sunday for a pair of 3:00 pm match-ups.

Bella Fonzone (#5) of the 05 Girls in action against PSA Princeton Elite.

’05 Girls

  • Coach: Ray Canevari

The 2005 girls improved their overall record to 4-1 and 2-0 in league play with a 9-2 victory over PSA Princeton Elite. Aminah Baruwa netted a hat trick, Bella Fonzone, and Maddie Nichelson recorded two goals each and Katie Seiler and Lauren Lekites hit the net as well. The ladies of Steel have an early season battle for first place next Saturday as they head to New Jersey for a matchup with Holmdel FC.

’06 Girls

  • Coaches: Ray Canevari and Joe Petraglia

Playing in their very first EDP game, the FC Steel 2006 girls stepped onto the field to face off against Phoenix SC 06 girls in their club soccer debut.  From the first whistle, Steel knew this was going to be a challenge.  Phoenix played tough and physical with great determination.  The 06 Girls met that determination head on with a passion and thirst for their first premier goal.  Payton Davis (#27) broke the ice and put Steel on the board.  Not being satisfied with just one goal, Payton again got free down the field and found the back of the net a second time.  Phoenix answered with a pair of goals in the second half to tie up the game. The FC Steel back line of Juliana Lamour, Brooke Patraglia, Lindsay Reimer, and Katie Brensinger played fantastic from the opening whistle until the final whistle.  It was a tough and physical game that ended as a draw.  The 06 Girls walked away more experienced with their heads held high.

FC Steel 09 Girls

’09 Girls

  • 2-0 WINNER over Fishtown Fury
  • Coaches: Anders Isaksson and Cora Snyder

FC Steel 2009 Girls played against Fishtown Fury in Philadelphia on Saturday afternoon. Both teams had some chances in the first half, even though FC Steel had most of the possession and created the most dangerous opportunities, but the first half ended 0-0. In the second half, FC Steel dominated the possession and created a lot of great chances while the defense did not allow Fishtown to take a single shot. FC Steel scored their first goal 10 minutes in to the second half after some great hustle from Sophia Shutkufski, where she stole the ball from one of the Fishtown players, dribbled in to the box, and placed her shot with the left foot in the right corner of the goal. A few minutes later the FC Steel scored their second, after connecting a string of some great passes which led up to Sofia Isaksson who broke away from the last defender and put it in the back of the net. A great team effort in their first game of the season. A 2-0 win for FC Steel 09 Girls!

FC Steel Boys’

Mauricio Vasquez connects on a penalty kick for his second goal of the day.

’06 Orange

  • tied 3-3 with Middletown FC Red
  • Coaches: Scott Cullen and Brandon Chambers

The 2006 Orange looked fantastic early on and built a 3-0 lead against Middletown.  FC Steel got a pair of goals from Mauricio Vasquez including a penalty kick.  On Vasquez first tally he drilled a laser into the upper-right 90 from just outside the box to get the scoring started.  In addition, the Steelers received a penalty-kick goal from Michael Deluhery.  However, Middletown did not give up and fought their way back to earn a 3-3 draw.

Michael Deluhery (#14) of the 06 Boys nets his goal on this penalty kick.

  • fell 2-0 to SFL United White
  • Coach: Scott Cullen

The FC Steel 2008 Black Boys suffered their first defeat of the season at the hands of the SFL United White team.  The 2-0 loss put the boys at 1-1 on the season.  A solid defensive effort by Colton Dencler and Alex Verdi helped keep SFL United off the board in the first half, but in the second half SFL United pulled away with two late goals.  The Steel are on their home field next week against the Arrows from Jersey Knights SC.

’09 Boys

It was a fine weekend for Steel soccer.
