This week’s (Oct. 6) games were played on a good day for football. It started off with a little rain in the morning before turning into an overcast but temperate day. All divisions faced tough competition from the Spartans.

Rookie Flag Division

This game ended up being the final game of the season for the rookies and saw plenty of action with some of the usual players doing what they do. Andrew Hastie paced the offense with two touchdown runs while Jayden Reifinger, Levi Miller and Jase Szlachtianshyn added one each. The defensive effort was led by Jase Szlachtianshyn and Levi Miller who had two stops each, while Jayden Reifinger, Andrew Hastie and Bryce Johnston contributed one each. The coaches were impressed with the play of the rookies while they learned the game and had a bunch of fun. Everyone is looking forward to next season already.

Competitive Flag Division

This was another tight game for the visiting Panthers. The offensive efforts from Taylor Rohn, who led the team with over 150 rushing yards and two touchdowns; Ricky Favere, with over 60 yards and one touchdown; Xander Farkas; and Zachary Henn, were solid. Defensively, the Panthers were led by Zachary Henn with an outstanding performance featuring six stops (two for loss). The next group contributed nine stops and three tackles for loss, and includes Daniel DeTello, Xander Farkas and Ricky Favere. Noah Snyder, Taylor Rohn and Trevor Weidner each contributed 2 stops. The Panthers had the ball late and were driving up the sidelines in an attempt to tie the game when Taylor Rohn got tackled out of bounds. The non-call of the tackle riled up the fans and ended the game with a loss by the score of 24-18. This was their third such close game in a row. Coach Greg said afterwards that it was their best team defensive effort of the season, and that unfortunately they just ran out of time.

100 Pound Division

This team has been playing hard all season but seems to find itself on the other side of the win column. Quarterback Noah Hubert is a dual threat player who runs hard and passes well, and with players like speedy Braden Rohn, hard-running Ezekiel Deily, Jakob Ziegler and Grayson Schmell the talent is there but for some reason isn’t translating to the scoreboard. The defense played well and featured a very strong game by Noah Hubert, who led the team with four tackles, one for loss and a sack. Braden Rohn and Liam Stoneback chipped in with three tackles each. In the end the Panthers were defeated 27-0.

120 Pound Division

The undefeated Panthers saw their first real test of the season in this game and passed it. After dominating most of the season, they actually trailed for the first time all year from the 2nd through the 4th quarters. After two early touchdowns from Constantine Donahue, the resilient Spartans took a 16-13 lead into the half. The two teams stayed even, trading scores by Landon Beckowski and a passing touchdown from Aiden Grogg to Jack Robertson to remain close. The defense was led by an absolutely stellar performance from Nathaniel Snyder, who totaled 11 tackles, while teammates Andrew Gilbert and Landon Beckowski combined for 11 more tackles and Jack Robertson came up with five more, including the biggest 4th down stop of the season. That created the turnover on downs which enabled…you guessed it…Constantine Donahue to add another 50 yard touchdown to his total of 132 yards and two scores, and gave the Panthers the come-from-behind win to remain undefeated. Coach Brown called it a great win and said everyone showed lots of character in the victory.
