Hellertown Police Monday announced charges against a borough man they say allegedly assaulted a woman during a domestic incident early on the morning of Jan. 3.

Hellertown Police Monday announced charges against a borough man they say allegedly assaulted a woman during a domestic incident early on the morning of Jan. 3.

In a news release, police said Steven Robert Dunkleberger, 49, was arrested after officers were called to a residence on Main Street at 1:43 a.m.

Police said “officers observed physical injuries to the victim, who alleged that (Dunkleberger) physically assaulted her, threatened her life and damaged her property during the altercation.”

According to court records, Dunkleberger is charged with Terroristic Threats with Intent to Terrorize Another (Misdemeanor 1), Simple Assault (Misdemeanor 2) and summary charges of harassment and criminal mischief.

Following a preliminary arraignment before District Judge Alicia Zito Jan. 3, Dunkleberger was released on $20,000 unsecured bail, records indicate.

A preliminary hearing in his case is scheduled for 9 a.m. Jan. 18, according to the court records.
