There weren’t a whole lot of highlights for the Saucon Valley Panthers in their 2019 home opener against the Southern Lehigh Spartans on Friday night. But, there is a little silver lining. In addition to freshman Alex Magnotta scoring his first career varsity touchdown on a pass from Dante Mahaffey, Damian Garcia trucked his way 82 yards on the ground for the first Panther score.
With about five minutes remaining in the first quarter and trailing Southern Lehigh 7-0, the Panther offense was deep in their own territory. On 3rd & 1 from their own 18-yardline, Saucon Valley called “Liz I 25 Lead”. Damian Garcia (#30) takes the handoff from Dante Mahaffey (#12) and gets a nicely executed cross-block from Nick Warnke (#77) and David Osman (#60) at the point of attack. Fullback, Chris Mann (#28) leads Garcia through the hole. Cody Swinney (#56) and Bobby Yovish (#67) do a good job getting bodies on defenders. Garcia hits the ‘5-hole’ hard to his left and then finds a seam in the Spartan defense back to the right as he pops through the line of scrimmage. From there, it is a footrace to the end zone that Garcia will win.

Up Next: Saucon Valley will host the Pen Argyl Green Knights on Friday night at 7 p.m for a Week-2 Colonial League showdown. Pen Argyl lost their opener on Friday to the Salisbury Falcons 25-16.
Good luck Panthers, the Source is with you!
