Basketball season is almost here and Saucon Valley Youth Basketball is very excited to be registering young players from Hellertown and Lower Saucon Township for the 2019-2020 season.
Why youth basketball? For starters, the practices instill discipline and the teamwork required of all players is a life skill that will serve them well as they grow into adulthood.
With Saucon Valley Youth Basketball, the emphasis isn’t necessarily on winning, either.
“Winning is always nice…but our focus is on playing good, fundamental basketball and having fun,” said SVYB president Tom Keenan. “We strive to have a program that, when the kids look back at it years from now, it will be those times when they were out on the court and just playing basketball with their friends that they remember more than the wins and losses.”
SVYB registration is open until Tuesday, Oct. 15.
Registration is open to all children, boys and girls, at all skill levels from first to sixth grade (registration for seventh and eighth grade boys opens in mid to late November, after middle school tryouts are complete).
Families on a budget may want to note that Saucon Valley Youth Basketball’s registration fee has remained the same for several years, and once again it is $55 for first and second graders and $85 for all others.
Included with the registration fee for first and second graders is a uniform t-shirt they can keep once the season is done. Third and fourth grade boys and girls receive a jersey to use for the season, but no shorts (SVYB will be getting new uniform jerseys for them this season). All other players receive both jerseys and shorts for the season.
All players will also receive a free SVYB logo magnet they can put on their locker or a parent can put on their car. Magnets will be handed out during the first week of practices.
Volunteer coaches are also needed for Saucon Valley Youth Basketball.
