The sacrifices made by U.S. veterans from World War II and earlier til today could not be overemphasized at the Edward H. Ackerman American Legion Post 397’s annual Veterans Day service, which was held inside the circle of trees at the wall of honor in Hellertown’s Union Cemetery Monday.

While for some Veterans Day has come to mean little more than a day off from work or school, the ceremony was a stark reminder that it is only because of brave men and women who have defended our country–often at great personal expense–that Americans enjoy the freedoms they do; freedoms which sadly are far too often taken for granted.
