Two household document shredding events are coming to Northampton County to help residents easily dispose of unwanted documents. The free events will be held Saturday, May 18 and Saturday, June 8 from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the Department of Human Services building located at 2801 Emrick Blvd., Bethlehem.

Residents are limited to three boxes or bags per vehicle with a 25-pound weight limit per bag or box. Accepted items will include accounting records, canceled checks, pay stubs, financial and investment statements, legal documents, medical records and tax returns. Items that will not be accepted include junk mail, catalogs, magazines, photos, negatives and X-rays. Documents secured with staples, paper clips, rubber bands and folders will be accepted, however papers attached to or within ring binders, metal strips and plastic sheet protectors will not be accepted at the events.

Attendees should not arrive before 10 a.m. and should remain in their vehicles to avoid causing traffic problems. Before arriving, attendees should make sure their bagged or boxed documents are easily accessible within their vehicle and have their car doors or trunk unlocked so they can be removed at the unloading area. Document shredding will be on a first come, first served basis.

State Rep. Milou Mackenzie (R-131) also recently announced a shredding event her office is sponsoring for residents of her district.
