Lower Saucon Residents Now Have Compost Center Access
After a public falling out between the municipalities, Lower Saucon Township residents were unable to use the Saucon Valley Compost Center on Springtown Hill Road in the township, which is owned by the borough of Hellertown. Since relations are being repaired, the township and the borough are again partnering to bring all residents the shared services they had before.
An example of this was demonstrated on Saturday, when township officials announced in an email that Lower Saucon residents can once again use the borough-owned compost center at 2011 Springtown Hill Road. They also announced that the yard waste center the township opened on Polk Valley Road has ceased operations.

In order to access the Saucon Valley Compost Center, residents must have a valid ID card. According to the township email, cards that were previously issued are no longer valid and new orange cards are being mailed to township residents.
Residents should display their ID card when entering the facility. To apply for a card or replace one, visit the township’s website.
According to the Borough of Hellertown’s website, the Saucon Valley Compost Center will open for the season on Friday, April 25, 2025. It will be open every Friday and Saturday except for July 4-5 through Nov. 22. The hours both days are 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., however mulch loading will only be available on Saturdays.
For more information about the ID cards and other questions, call the Borough of Hellertown at 610-838-7041 or Lower Saucon Township at 610-865-3291.
