Snow, Ice Could Make for Messy Super Bowl Weekend
As Pennsylvanians look forward to Super Bowl Sunday, forecasters say another messy winter storm is headed their way.
The National Weather Service has issued a winter weather advisory for Northampton, Lehigh and Bucks counties from 3 p.m. Saturday to 6 a.m. Sunday, when up to two inches of snow and sleet and a tenth of an inch of ice is possible.
The weather service warned that roadways will likely become slippery due to the accumulation of frozen precipitation.
The winter weather advisory also covers surrounding parts of eastern Pennsylvania and New Jersey.
Roads and stores are expected to be busier than normal this Saturday and Sunday, as Eagles fans shop for last minute Super Bowl party supplies and make other preparations in anticipation of the big game, which will be played in New Orleans Sunday night.
This weekend’s storm comes on the heels of one mid-week that deposited sleet and ice on the area. Many local schools, including Saucon Valley, were closed because of the icy conditions it left behind.
Looking ahead, there is a chance of snow Tuesday and Wednesday next week according to the latest NWS forecast for the Lehigh Valley, and on Thursday there is a chance of rain and snow.
