Evelyn F. Shay, 87, of Bethlehem [OBITUARY]
Evelyn F. Shay, 87, of Bethlehem, died Tuesday, Nov. 11, 2014 at the VNA Hospice House of St. Luke’s, Lower Saucon Township. She was the wife of the late Rev. Dr. Earl R. Shay Sr. (died Aug. 21, 2003). Evelyn was born in Emmaus on Dec. 21, 1926 to the late Clarence Francis and Rubie Irene (Kirschman) Iobst. She was a graduate of Emmaus High School in 1944 and Reading Hospital School of Nursing in 1947. Evelyn was a Registered Nurse in Reading and Bethlehem, Columbus and Indianapolis, Ind., and in later years she was a nurse and office manager in a private practice in the Bethlehem. She was a faithful member of Advent Moravian Church, Bethlehem, and participated in the church choir and bell choir, and served on church boards and many committees of the Moravian churches. Evelyn and Earl served the Moravian Church through their work in the mission fields, Moravian congregations and the Moravian Theological Seminary. She also volunteered at the Moravian Archives.

Loving children: Earl R. Shay Jr. of Upper Nazareth Township, Glenn T. Shay and his wife Dr. Carolyn of Indianapolis, Ind., Kenneth D. Shay of Palm Springs, Calif., Dr. Linda J. Shay Gardner, Esq., and her husband Neville of Bethlehem, Nancy L. Heintzelman and her husband David of Hellertown, David E. Shay and his wife Anne of Copley, Ohio; siblings: Christine Miller and her husband Norman of San Jose, Calif., Philip Iobst and his wife Peggy of Erie; grandchildren: Niall Gardner, Sara, Laura, Abby Tate and her husband Sam, Emily Heintzelman, Garrett, Makaila, Georgia, Rubie Shay; great-granddaughter: Marley Gardner. She was predeceased by a sister: Barbara Iobst; and a grandson: Christopher Heintzelman.
SERVICE
Family and friends are invited to a service celebrating Evelyn’s life at 1 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 15, 2014 at Advent Moravian Church, 3730 Jacksonville Road, Bethlehem. There will be no calling hours. The interment service will be at 1 p.m. Sunday at the Hebron Moravian Cemetery, Lebanon. Online expressions of sympathy can be recorded at www.heintzelmancares.com.
