Note: The following information is from Pennsylvania’s LIHEAP program.
Pennsylvania’s Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program, known as LIHEAP, is now accepting applications for assistance with wintertime heating costs.
LIHEAP helps low-income families pay their heating bills with assistance in the form of cash grants sent directly to the utility company.
LIHEAP also offers emergency grants for households to pay for heating emergencies such as furnace repairs, a fuel shortage or utility service shutoff.
Income restrictions apply and are based on family size. For example, to qualify for assistance a family of four must have less than $35,775 in annual income. To learn more about income eligibility, read the requirements outlined in the LIHEAP brochure.
LIHEAP applications are available online, or by calling or visiting the Northampton County Assistance Office, 201 Larry Holmes Drive, Easton (610-250-1785 or 1786).
Heating a home can be expensive, but there are things that can be done to help reduce the costs. The LIHEAP website also offers tips and links to additional information for residents interested in learning more about how to save money on heating costs by improving the energy efficiency of their homes.
