Saucon Valley Insurance Services, which is located at 610 Main St., Hellertown, was formed with the merger of the former Matey-Medei (founded in 1955) and Potts-Jones-Mills (founded in 1944) insurance agencies in July 2014.
In spite of the fact that both agencies sold Erie Insurance products–and for many years were located just a few blocks apart on Main Street–they never stepped on each other’s toes, which helped when it came time to make the decision to merge, Matey said.
In addition to experience, another advantage customers at Saucon Valley Insurance enjoy is the level of expertise that comes from only having licensed insurance agents on staff.
“That’s one of our biggies,” Medei said. “Everyone you’ll talk to is licensed.”
And when you call Saucon Valley Insurance Services, you have direct access to either Matey, Medei or Mills, all of whom answer the phones themselves.
“We’re high in customer service that way,” Matey said.
In addition to serving the insurance needs of the Saucon Valley and beyond, all three partners have extensively devoted themselves to community service over the years.
Suzanne Matey served on Hellertown Borough Council for four years, and currently sits on the board of directors for the Saucon Valley Community Center, where she helps lead fundraising efforts for the nonprofit organization.
Craig Medei is the former chairman of the Hellertown-Lower Saucon Community Day Committee and is still active as a committee member in the planning of the beloved annual event. Like Matey, he is an active community center supporter and frequently emcees their fundraising events, including banquets.
Bill Mills is a past president of the Hellertown Lions Club, a past board member for Union Cemetery of Hellertown and a past Hellertown-Lower Saucon Chamber of Commerce board member.
