Hellertown Police are warning borough residents to be cautious about individuals who knock on their doors and claim to be from utility companies, after they say two or three men “approached a resident’s home claiming to be from the water company” Friday afternoon.manhole-cover-294510_1280

In a news release about the suspicious activity, police said the men told the home’s owner they needed to test the water. Although they apparently had access to the home in the 1400 block of Whitaker Street, nothing is believed to have been stolen.

Police said the men are in their mid-thirties with dark hair.

“Borough residents are encouraged to remain on guard against this type of activity and encouraged to notify police immediately in the event that they are approached by solicitors or those claiming to be from utility companies (who) are unable to produce proper identification, permits or credentials,” the news release stated.
