Lower Saucon Township Police said Monday that an Allentown man was cited for careless driving and will have to be re-tested at a PennDOT driver’s license center after he allegedly crashed into an auto body shop at Polk Valley Road and Rt. 412.
In a news release, police said Raymond L. Rissmiller, 64, of the 100 block of W. Susquehanna Street, told officers he was trying to park near Dollar General in the Shoppes at Hellertown parking lot when his car’s accelerator “stuck on.”
As a result, police said, the car moved forward, “driving onto Polk Valley Road, (and) then turning into (the) Lucky’s Auto Body parking lot and running into the building.”
Police said damage to both Rissmiller’s car and the building was “minor.”
The accident–which happened on the morning of June 1–was the first of two involving a car versus a building to occur in the Saucon Valley in less than a week.
On Saturday night, a pickup truck struck a parked car on Main Street and then the front wall of Sagra Bistro, 620 Main St., which was damaged and remains closed.
