The Saucon Valley School District Campus was placed on a lockdown based on a recommendation by local police Wednesday afternoon following a threat against a staff member, Supt. Monica McHale-Small said in a news alert and phone call that went out to parents and guardians.

The lockdown was lifted shortly before 2:30 p.m., according to a follow-up alert/phone call issued by McHale-Small in which she said a “suspect is in custody” and that school buses would depart at their normal times.

In the original alert, which was issued shortly after 2 p.m. Wednesday, McHale-Small did not specify the nature of the threat but said Saucon Valley Elementary, Saucon Valley Middle and Saucon Valley High schools were on a lockdown.

“All children, faculty and staff are safe, and the police are present on campus,” she said. “No one is being permitted in or out of our buildings or on our grounds” and parents should not try to come to the schools, she also stated.
