Hellertown Borough Council by a vote of 4-2 Monday approved a motion to donate $1,000 to a project to expand the Hellertown-Lower Saucon veterans memorial wall in Union Cemetery of Hellertown.

Borough manager Cathy Hartranft said that outside of a form letter limited information about the volunteer-led project has been provided, but essentially the goal is to increase the size of the wall so more names can be added to it.

“They’ve run out of space,” confirmed Bob Hero, who was seated in the audience.

Voting against the motion were council members James Hill and Richard Staffieri.

“I don’t know why they don’t have a representative here to present (the plan) to council,” Staffieri commented.

Hartranft said the money can come from the borough’s general fund.
