The Edward H. Ackerman American Legion Post 397 in Hellertown will host its annual Veterans Day ceremony at Union Cemetery, Main and Walnut streets, Hellertown, on Wednesday, Nov. 11.

Legion Commander Geoff Baer said the gathering will begin at 10 a.m., with the Legion Riders arriving at 10:15 and the half-hour ceremony commencing at 10:30.

Hellertown Mayor Richard Fluck and the President of the Legion’s Ladies Auxiliary will both speak at the cemetery’s stage area, a bagpiper will perform music and the Legion Honor Guard will fire their rifles to conclude the ceremony at 11 a.m.

Local vets should be aware that many national chains and some local businesses offer discounts for veterans and active duty military members on Veterans Day.

For example, Bar Louie–which recently opened at The Promenade Shops at Saucon Valley–is offering veterans and military personnel a free meal (up to a $12 value) on Nov. 10 and 11, 2015. The offer is valid at participating locations, with military ID or proof of service.

Applebee’s is also offering veterans and active service members a free meal on Nov. 11, 2015. The restaurant chain will be have 7 entrées to choose from (beverage and gratuity not included), and military ID or proof of service is required.

“Our goal is to help the military community better manage money and understand the variety of programs and benefits available to them,” according to the About Us page on The Military Wallet.
