SV Youth Cheerleaders Compete in Ocean City, Maryland

Saucon Valley Youth cheerleaders competed in the 2016 Reach the Beach National Championships in Ocean City, Md., Saturday, where the Mighty Minis team (4th grade and under) received an honorable mention placement and Team Spirit (6th grade and under) was awarded third place.

“Out of seven squads the Mighty Minis were one of three that got Honorable Mention, but we are all so proud of all of the girls for getting up on that high stage in front of so many spectators and doing a great job,” parent Karen Cooney said.

“The scores showed they did really well,” she added. “They only had a couple points off that would have made the difference in ranking.”

“The girls worked extremely hard this year and should be proud of their performances,” VP for cheerleading for the Saucon Valley Youth Sports Association Jeanne Reilly said. “SVYSA wants to give a special shout out to the graduating 6th graders, many of whom have cheered for SVYSA for more than five years.”

“SVYSA competition cheerleaders cheer at all youth football games and then attend competitions in the fall and winter,” she explained. “Most competitions are local but some require travel. Typically, the last competition is a Nationals level competition. They practice four hours a week from September to March.”
