Joaquim P. DaSilva, 85, of Hellertown, died Friday, May 6, 2016 at his home surrounded by his family.

Joaquim P. DaSilva, 85, of Hellertown, died Friday, May 6, 2016 at his home surrounded by his family.dasilva He was the husband of Margarida F. (Ferreira) DaSilva. He was born in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil on July 6, 1930 to the late Manuel Nunes DaSilva and Engracia DaSilva Pereira. At 18 months of age he moved to Portugal with his mother and brother. In June 1960 he immigrated to the United States. He served in the Portuguese Army and was discharged due to injury. Joaquim was co-owner of Pereira and DaSilva Contractors Inc., Hellertown, from 1975 until his retirement in 1992. He was a member of the Church of St. Theresa of the Child Jesus, Hellertown, and the Portuguese American Club, Bethlehem.

SURVIVORS

In addition to his loving wife of 59 years; children: Gracinda “Cindy” M. DaSilva of Hellertown, Joaquim “Jack” M. DaSilva and his wife Monica Tanzos DaSilva of Lower Saucon Township; granddaughters: Danielle M. DaSilva and Ensign Samantha N. DaSilva; sister: Maria Lourdes Henriques of Branca, Portugal. He was predeceased by brother: Manuel Pereira Nunes DaSilva.

SERVICE

Family and friends are invited to call from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, May 10, 2016 and 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Heintzelman Funeral Home Inc., 326 Main St., Hellertown. The calling hour will be followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at the church, 1408 Easton Road, Hellertown. The interment will conclude services at Holy Saviour Cemetery, Bethlehem. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Theresa’s Church, 1408 Easton Road, Hellertown, PA 18055 and/or Lehigh Valley Hospice, 2166 S. 12th St. #101, Allentown, PA 18103.
