A spokesman for BB&T bank, which recently acquired National Penn Bank, confirmed that the electronic time and temperature displays that have long been part of some Lehigh Valley branches’ outdoor signs are becoming a thing of the past.
“National Penn and BB&T made a joint decision to remove the time and temperature signs at conversion which will occur in mid-July,” said David R. White, Vice President of Corporate Communications for BB&T.
“The signs have become increasingly difficult to maintain, and incandescent bulbs for many of the models are no longer manufactured,” he said in an emailed statement. “We did not feel that partially-illuminated or frequently inaccurate signs would be the right image to display in our communities.”
Locally, the time and temperature signs at the 741 Main Street, Hellertown and Eighth Avenue (Bethlehem) branches have already been covered over; a change that recently prompted questions from Saucon Source readers who often looked at the signs to check the time of day and/or current temperature.
