The Hellertown Police Department’s monthly report to borough council for April 2016, which was included in council’s meeting minutes from May 2, included the following statistics:

  • 342 calls for service, including three for theft reports, eight for domestic/assault reports, one for a fraud report and 10 for traffic collision calls
  • A total of 101 citations were written
  • 11 charges against individuals were filed, including eight for narcotics possession and three for DUI

All members of the department completed and passed their firearms qualifications, the report indicated.

Cpl. Carl Fischer completed his recertification for Drug Recognition Expert (DRE), and officers John Donato and Nicholas Szmodis “completed a class on enforcing the state inspection code portion of the vehicle code,” the report stated.

Police Chief Robert Shupp told council in the report that there “are some larger cases” the department has been working on, and that he would provide them with updates on those cases as they become available.
