A fireworks complaint led to the discovery Friday night of more than 600 marijuana plants growing in beds on private property in the 2700 block of Redington Road–a somewhat secluded part of Lower Saucon Township–according to published reports.

WFMZ-TV Channel 69 News reported Monday that a neighbor complained about the noise of fireworks that were being set off on the property owned by Raymond Payne, 57, 2750 Redington Road, who was reportedly sitting on his porch and appeared intoxicated when a police officer arrived at his house to speak with him.

Instead of obeying the Lower Saucon officer’s order to come talk to him, Payne said “I can’t, man, I can’t,” before staggering inside the home, leaving the officer outside to discover two 60-square-foot beds containing 636 marijuana plants, some of which were 3.5 feet tall, Lehigh Valley Live reported.

The perimeter of the property was secured and a search warrant was obtained, but by the time officers entered the house Payne had disappeared, WFMZ reported.

It was unclear how he was able to evade authorities at the scene, but as of Monday a a warrant for Payne’s arrest on a felony charge of possession with intent to deliver narcotics had been filed with District Judge David W. Tidd’s office, according to court records.
