A taste of the Caribbean is now available in Freemansburg.
Cherry’s Caribbean Palace, which opened Aug. 25 at 415 Main St., is a Jamaican and soul food restaurant that will host a grand opening celebration Friday.
According to a news release, Cherry’s is the first restaurant of its kind in the immediate area and is “dedicated to serving authentic, fresh Jamaican and Southern cuisines with the essences of hospitality.”
Some of the Caribbean items on the menu are: Jerk Chicken, Jerk Pork, Jerk Burger Sliders, Roti, “Rasta Pasta,” Pepper Shrimp, Ackee with Salt Cod, Beef Patties, Jamaican Ginger Beer and Jamaican Blue Mountain coffee.
Although the restaurant is takeout-only, it also offers catering and features a 12-seat patio available for outdoor dining.
“I want to get back to the basics and stay local,” chef-owner Cherry Dunn said of her restaurant’s menu. “I remember as a child in my homeland of Jamaica farming was important to the way we cooked. We grew our foods, eating and relying on the nutrients of the earth. Dining in my homeland was not only healthy, sustainable, and tasty; it was also rich and environmentally-friendly.”
The restaurant is committed to using local produce in its cuisine, the news release said.
Friday’s grand opening party from 1 to 6 p.m. will feature a meet-and-greet with Cherry and Apperlyn Dunn, reggae music, a best dancer contest, food samples and more.
Cherry’s Caribbean Palace is open Monday through Saturday from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m.
Off-street parking is available and major credit cards are accepted.
The restaurant’s phone number is (610) 419-4456.
