Temperatures Friday and Saturday are forecast to soar well into the 60s. But don’t get too used to the warmth.

Meteorologists are predicting a precipitous drop in temperatures starting Saturday night, and there’s even a chance of snow showers Sunday, with minor accumulating snows possible in the Poconos.

The National Weather Service stated in a Hazardous Weather Outlook Friday that Carbon and Monroe counties in Pennsylvania and Sussex County in northern New Jersey could receive a dusting to an inch of snow Saturday night into Sunday.

In parts of the Lehigh Valley–particularly the higher elevations–there is also a chance that less than an inch of snow will accumulate, according to a NWS snow accumulation forecast map.

After a high of 64 degrees Saturday, Sunday’s high in Hellertown is only supposed to be 44, which is below normal for this time of year.

Sunday night’s low is forecast to be 29, and there is a 20 percent chance of snow showers, according to the NWS forecast.

The website PA Weather Action is predicting that the wintry weather “will start in the late afternoon hours Saturday and will continue through Sunday and into Monday for northern parts of PA.”

According to their snowfall forecast map, the Lehigh Valley and much of south central Pennsylvania can expect “some possible snow showers, with little to no accumulation.”

Counties in far northern Pennsylvania near the New York state border however could receive as much as 7 inches of snow, however, as lake effect snows develop in the wake of a low pressure system that will form off the Northeast coast, PA Weather Action predicts.
