Lower Saucon Township Police said Wednesday that an Upper Saucon Township man has been charged with DUI after he allegedly caused a crash while intoxicated on Rt. 378 near the I-78 overpass.

In a news release police said Frank Danyi, 26, of the 1600 block of Jonathan Lane, was driving a black Mercedes-Benz when he allegedly rear-ended the other vehicle just 50 feet from where a Lower Saucon officer was sitting shortly before 6 p.m. Nov. 18.

After witnessing the accident police said the officer pulled forward to the crash site and observed Danyi “staggering out of his vehicle.”

Police said Danyi failed field sobriety tests and was then taken to the Northampton County DUI Center for processing, where his blood alcohol concentration (BAC) was allegedly found to be .18 percent. The legal limit for most drivers is .08 percent.

“Prior to the transport, a tube with white residue was found in (Danyi’s) pocket which field tested positive for cocaine,” police said.

Danyi has also been charged with possession of drug paraphernalia and cited for following another vehicle too closely, they added.
