Panther Paul Miller (126) came out firing against Line Mountain’s Cole Hauck and put his Eagle opponent right to his back. But, Hauck recovered and was able to turn the tables on Miller. What looked to be a very promising start for Saucon Valley ended up being a big relief for the Eagles. Hauck pinned Miller in 1:22 to start a little momentum for Line Mountain.
The Line Mountain Eagles upperclassmen at 126 and 138 were too much for the Panthers Justin Kyra (132) and Thomas Spirk (138). Kyra, a sophomore, lost by major-decision to senior Collin Klinger and Spirk, a freshman, fell 8-3 to junior Caleb Shaffer.
The Panthers Angelo Mahaffey (145) finally got Saucon on the scoreboard with a 10-3 decision over Line Mountain’s Wyatt Bingaman. Mahaffey used a strong first period to build a 5-0 lead and added a reversal and a takedown to eventually pull out the win.
Jason Jones (152) followed Mahaffey’s win with a major-decision over Line Mountain senior Wyatt Bingaman. Jones used a couple of takedowns and five near fall points to build his 13-5 victory.
Saucon Valley freshman, Dane Csencsits (160) lost a heartbreaker to Eagle senior Kenny Boyer. Csencsits hit a reversal to start the third period and build a 4-1 lead. However, Boyer followed an escape with a takedown and three near-fall points to steal the win. Csencsits hit a reversal at the buzzer, but nonetheless felt the sting of defeat, 7-6.
Line Mountain continued a run on decisions at 182 and 195. Ethan Long got the better of Abe Lugo 8-1 and Jaron Renn snuck past Stephen Good 4-2.
The Panthers Devin Fontanez (220) tried to rally his teammates with his 20 second pin of Line Mountain’s Tait Bordner, but senior Garret Kieffer of Line Mountain was able to stick Saucon Valley’s Trey Polak for six. The two heavyweights rolled across the mat, each exposing their backs. But, it was Kieffer that ended up on top.
Line Mountain’s Matty Koller (106) earned a tech-fall over Saucon’s Dane Druckenmiller. Druckenmiller fought hard and refused to be pinned to one of the top-ranked wrestlers in the state. But, Koller had too much ammo for Druckenmiller.
The Panthers finished strong with falls by Nick Rosengrant (113) and Josh Jones (120). Rosengrant, a sophomore, built a 5-0 lead before decking Line Mountain junior Cam Hauck. Josh Jones, also a sophomore, dominated Griffin Smeltz before sticking him in 1:45.
