Michael S. Slahta, 88, of Hellertown, died Saturday, April 8, 2017 at the VNA Hospice House of St. Luke’s, Lower Saucon Township.

Michael S. Slahta, 88, of Hellertown, died Saturday, April 8, 2017 at the VNA Hospice House of St. Luke’s, Lower Saucon Township. He was the husband of the late Elsie D. Slahta, who died July 10, 2005. He was born in Bethlehem on June 30, 1928 to the late Stefan and Mary (Tutko) Slahta. Michael served our country faithfully in the U.S. Army during peacetime. He worked as a millwright at the former Bethlehem Steel Company for 42 years until retiring. Michael was a member of St. Theresa of the Child Jesus Roman Catholic Church, Hellertown. He was a true lover and supporter of his Hellertown community.

SURVIVORS

Loving children: Deborah A. of Lower Saucon Township, Lois J. (William K.) Weidner of Williams Township, Philip M. (Stephanie A.) of Bethlehem, Gregory G. of Bethlehem; sister: Mary Steager of Fountain Hill; three grandchildren; two great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by a son: Jeffrey J. (1993); and eight siblings.

SERVICE

Family and friends are invited to call from 9 to 10 a.m. Tuesday, April 11, 2017 at the Heintzelman Funeral Home Inc., 326 Main St., Hellertown. The calling hour will be followed by the service at 10 a.m. The interment will conclude services at Union Cemetery of Hellertown. Military honors will be accorded by the Edward H. Ackerman American Legion Post 397, Hellertown. Online expressions of sympathy can be recorded at www.heintzelmancares.com.
