It didn’t take long for most of the freezing hometown fans attending the District 11 4A football championship game at Nazareth Area High School Friday to realize theĀ Saucon Valley Panthers were outgunned by their opponent–the fleet-of-foot Bethlehem Catholic Golden Hawks.
At the end of the first half, the Golden Hawks had scored four touchdowns and led the Panthers, 28-0.
The second half of the game played out in similar fashion to the first half, although one bright spot in the dark, cold night was the touchdown scored by senior QB Alstan Wolfe, which finally put Saucon on the board.
Although the outcome wasn’t what Panther fans had hoped for, 2017 was nevertheless a winning season for the Panthers, who finished with an overall record of 7-5 and a regular season record of 6-4.
Saucon Valley last beat Bethlehem Catholic in 2015, on their way to the PIAA semifinals in which they lost to Imhotep Charter in Bethlehem.
