The Friedensville section of Upper Saucon Township today offers few clues about its past, including an era in which a massive zinc mining operation was the predominant industry.
That era will be highlighted by a presentation Wednesday, Jan. 10 at the Lower Saucon Township Historical Society.
The free presentation will focus on the Ueberroth Zinc Mine and include information about the President Pump and its Cornish Engine House, which housed the largest engine in the world at the time it was built.
Before the presentation there will be a 7 p.m. dinner catered by Dickie’s BBQ that will include pulled pork, chicken breast, baked potato casserole, mac and cheese, coleslaw, bread and a relish tray. Dinner tickets are $12 per person, and reservations should be placed by calling the historical society office at 610-625-8771,
The visual presentation about the zinc mine will be held at 8 p.m. in the Lower Saucon Township municipal building, 3700 Old Philadelphia Pike, Bethlehem, Pa.
Note: An earlier published version of this story incorrectly listed the date of the presentation as Jan. 8. The correct date is Wednesday, Jan. 10. We apologize for any confusion the error may have caused.
